Oscars '15

Rosamund Pike in Givenchy
My pick for Best Dressed
Each year, folks complain about how boring the Oscars is. Well, my friends, the Oscars is ALWAYS boring. One year after the other.

But we ain't here for all of that, right? No. We're here to talk red carpet fashion!

However, before I begin I want to say that Neil Patrick Harris was corny as a host. I'm just about tired of him singing and, throughout the show, I was tired of him making a joke and then letting the joke simmer while the audience fake laugh. It's like, dude, just make the joke and continue on to what you're gonna say next. Geez. Also, Octavia should ignore him for the rest of her life. Anywho, congratulations to Common Lonnie Lynn and John Legend John Stephens for Glory, J.K. Simmons for his phenomenal work in Whiplash, and Eddie Redmayne for is work in The Theory of Everything (a movie I do plan to watch...soon-ish).

Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent
Initially, this was my pick for Best Dressed. But then Rosamund came through in the clutch.
I know some folks may deem this too simple for Best Dressed. And, in a way, I can see why.
But the simplicity of this look is why I love it so much. It's simple and, yet, fierce.
It makes a statement.

Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Monochrome at its best.

Rita Ora in Marchesa
While she did a serviceable job with her performance of "Grateful", she absolutely stunned on the carpet.
She looks amazing. And the haircut fits her to a T.

Robin Roberts in Marc Bouwer
While I wished something else could have been done to her hair, she looks really pretty in this sparkling number.
That color was made for her.

Emma Stone in Elie Saab
Are we matching our shoes to our dress again? Is that now in style?
This dress is a keeper.
And, once again, Emma got the styling right.

Zendaya Coleman in Vivienne Westwood
My Daya!
At 18, she continues to make her mark on the red carpet.
Do you know why I love her style so much?
Because off the red carpet, she still has style! Zendaya's very tomboy-ish but she always bring a feminine touch.
On the red carpet, she plays with fashion. As she should given her age. But she does it with ease and class.
There's a reason why the media eats this girl up - she has IT.
And I haven't even gotten to the faux locs?! Man, this girl knows what she's doing.
I don't know who her manager is but give that (wo)man a raise! I mean, how did Daya get to the Oscars, tho?

Jennifer Hudson in Romona Keveza
Praise Jennifer for looking this good.
I can't recall the last time she has looked this good.
Great shade of yellow.

Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad
Y'know what? This would've been a legit Best Dressed option.
The styling is fantastic, the color is beautiful, love the lace bodice, the train. Her makeup and hair is on point.
But that damn split. Just too damn high.
I just can't look past that slit.

Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
Ms. Jenny from the Block looks gorgeous! Out of this world. Especially, given her age...because she doesn't age.
Ugh.
But I'm just not a fan of a dress being the same shade as the wearer's skin. Because it always comes off as too nude.
Don't get me wrong, an impeccable dress. But, yeah, that's my reason.

Lady Gaga in custom Alaia
I added her to this list because of her Sound of Music tribute performance.
Folks gotta look past her antics and realize that this lady right here is muthafuckin' talented.
Honestly, her performance saved the show. It was that good.
Also, I'm trying very hard to give Ms. Rhimes the benefit of the doubt but her tweet is still nagging me this early fine morning.
So with that being said, Shonda can go kick rocks and stick to writing her shows.

Lupita Nyong'o in custom Calvin Klein
While this lady has poise for days, the dress did nothing for me.
Lupita in white should automatically be a win, no?
The skirt and back portion of the dress are the real winners here.
The weird ass halter with a sternum cut-out is not.

Gwyneth Paltrow in custom Ralph & Russo
Too bubblegum pink. Also, what is that creation on her arm?

Scarlett Johannson in Marchesa
The dress is nicely shaped for her body. But that's all I got.
The shade is really drab-like, the necklace totally unnecessary, and the faux hi-top fade is just off.

Solange Knowles in Christian Siriano
How can a Solange x Christian pairing go all so wrong?
This look, from head to toe, just doesn't work.
Well, that's my take on the Oscars '15 red carpet. Did you watch the show? Who was your Best Dressed of the night?
