City Chic x Sonsi

dc plus size style

I've always admired City Chic from afar. A couple of years back, it was one of the few international plus size online stores. Also, I loved the Australian brand's mix of edginess with a dash of girly-girly. Now, City Chic is launching their brand through Sonsi (a branch under Lane Bryant). Sonsi.com is an online plus-size boutique that carries brands that caters to women sizes 12 and up.

Recently, I was contacted by Sonsi to help celebrate their City Chic launch by styling items of my choice. I was one of the three bloggers selected to participate including Monique of Fashion, Love & Martinis and Amanda of Curves and Chaos. Um...you can imagine that the e-mail made my day. Anywho, I chose four items that I created into two looks.

1. Two Cats Top/Lace Maxi Skirt ($54.00)/Metal Plate Belt

I love me a good maxi. I love me a good skirt. I love me some lace. Mix it all together and you get this beauty. In. Love. When scouring the tops section of City Chic I wanted to pair it with something that's a little bit out of my usual style but still seems a bit me, y'know? I'm not an animal person but I definitely gravitated towards this top. I love the cheekiness of the two tiger heads nicely placed on my boobs area. My boobs are watching you. Also, I'm all for embellishments so I was definitely diggin' the studded shoulders. I finalized the look with the gold metal belt. I wore this while shopping and strolling around San Francisco and Oakland this past 4th of July weekend. Hence, why I'm wearing the black Payless flats. But I will most certainly rock this skirt again with a nice pair of heels or wedges. And the top would be great paired with denim shorts or black ankle pants, no?

I wished I got a better photo of my ring. Two tiger heads.

2. Raining Roses Shirt

Top: City Chic c/o Sonsi.com, Pants/Heels: Avenue, Tank Top: Old Navy, Belt: ASOS, Clutch Wallet: Charming Charlie

I actually planned to wear this outfit to an event today. Seriously, as I'm typing this right now (current time is 7:55pm) the event I planned on going to is probably wrapping up. I took a power nap and, well, here we are. So, I woke up, realized I wasn't gonna make the event and instead took some photos. But best believe this top will be shown again on this blog. With different bottoms and shoes, of course. Maybe a different bag, too. Better lighting. DEFINITELY a different hairstyle.

Let's back to the program, shall we.

How cute is the triangular cut-out?
How NOT cute is my bra strap peeking out of the cut-out?

I chose this top because it was sheer AND floral. Duh. No, but also I knew it would be perfect as a 'jacket' or a 'vest'.  I've always wanted to play around with my tops that way. Luckily (or unfortunately), the size I chose was a little too snug for my 42DD. The only other option I had was to wear it open. I styled it with Avenue pants and heels. Inside is a plain black Old Navy tank.

I truly like each item that I chose. It looked exactly like it did online and fit me well. Oh, and don't be confused with the sizes. Yes, it runs as XS, S, M, etc. but it's more like 14/XS, 16/S, 18/M, 20/L, 22/XL and 24/XXL.
