MET Gala '13

My picks for who I felt at least tried to bring their own version of punk fashion:
Rooney Mara in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci
Nicole Richie in TopShop

Last night was the Met Gala. This year's theme was 'Punk: Chaos to Couture'. Given the theme, I was pretty excited to see everybody's interpretation. I don't know if the theme freaked some folks out but a lot of them played it safe.Very safe. Others just didn't give a damn. (I'm looking at you Mr. Andre Leon Talley). And there were some that thought punk meant ABE (All Black Everything) with hints of leather. It came off looking more goth than punk. It didn't help that we had to watch the live red carpet online and listen to two "hosts" give THE most awkward interviews ever. The same ol' dry questions with the same ol' uncomfortable pauses. *shudders* The funniest moment for me was towards the end when Beyonce arrived and the male host started whispering about her arrival and actually wondered out loud if Beyonce would come over and talk to him. And then right on cue, it was the end of the online red carpet telecast. Rollin'.

MET Gala 2013
Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs
I felt Miley truly got the message. Hair and all.
Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy
Okay. I lied. This isn't punk but, boy, do I love her dress!
Anne Hathaway in Valentino
Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier
Taylor Swift in J. Mendel
Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon, Hat by Philip Treacy
Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbanna, Jewelry by David Yurman
They plain ol' just had fun with their outfits!
Liya Kebede in Alberta Ferretti
Christina Ricci in Vivienne Westwood
Madonna in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci

None of their looks screamed punk! (and some of them were just flat out ugly) but I did enjoy seeing these sisters on the red carpet. Family love!
Dakota and Elle Fanning in Rodarte
Mary-Kate Olsen in Chanel Couture, Vintage Balmain jacket
Ashley Olsen in Dior Couture
MK looks homeless. Ashley looks like an alien.
Solange Knowles in Kenzo
Beyonce Knowles-Carter in Givenchy
Solange looks cute but I feel like I've seen her in this before. Also, she looks very 60s-ish.
Bey is just a no all around. It was like the belt was her definition of 'punk'. Matching boots, though? Wow.

Make-up and hair, FTW.
Ana Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello
January Jones in Chanel
Ana's complete look is a YES!
 And ending with an icon...
Debbie Harry in Tommy Hilfiger
